As a researcher, I focused health and climate change policy research and analysis of the Planning from the Future Project. The project aims to discover and analyze what the world will look like in 20 years and how changes might affect the humanitarian aid sector. As program assistant I conducted interviews, organized events, wrote reports and composed policy briefs. I only left because my student visa did not permit me to work for longer in the country.

While working with Planned Parenthood as Campus organizer I got to be the President of Advocates for Choice, a University of Colorado Boulder student group that promotes comprehensive sexual health education and reproductive justice. Not only did I get a chance to run events and manage a team of 4, but I also went to Washington, DC to lobby.

I planned a speaker event for 500 people – brought Roya Hakakian (American-Iranian writer and activist) to speak at the university. I was also Committee Director for the CU Boulder UN High School Conference and delegated at National Model United Nation Conferences in New York and Washington, D.C. This position involved much country-specific research in order to present at conferences.

The Miramontes Arts & Sciences Program (MASP) supports high-achieving traditionally underrepresented undergraduate students who want to be a part of a diverse academic community. MASP provides its students with a supportive community of students, faculty and staff; participation scholarships; academic research opportunities; and a dedicated space for community activities, study and seminars. Because of the support MASP provides, its students consistently perform better than their peers at CU and have a higher than average retention and graduation rate. As staff assistant I was given a scholarship and did clerical and administrative work, organized events including geocaching, graduation banquets and fundraisers. I also was nominated as Student Employee of the Year in 2013.

I assisted private consultant Burke Fishburn to provide expertise and research for the WHO-ASEAN Southeast Asia Regional Office’s Strategic Framework on Birth Defect Prevention policies in every ASEAN country.
